Dolly was never supposed to exist. Doey made her out of raw dough and desperation, trying to shape a family from the scraps of who he used to be. But she was never finished—never molded, never real—and the more she tried to hold her form, the more she fell apart. Their child came out the same: soft, sweet, and doomed from the start. Doey wanted love, but Dolly was a dream he couldn’t keep warm.
