This was a world I originally developed at Cartoon Network as a kid’s show, but they turned it down after a year. After art directing the Midnight Gospel, I took the idea to Netflix to see if they were interested. It was maybe the worst pitch of my life. I needed their help making this show but I didn’t want to tell them anything about it because my ideas felt too abstract and personal to put through more grueling years of development. So then I decided to raise the money myself and make a pilot to see if any of these ideas about death and our connection to the sublime and the grotesque would resonate with anyone else.
The short has played at several festivals such as Sundance and Fantastic Fest in Austin. Now it’s eligible to make the Oscars short list. I really don’t know how this was possible but maybe there’s a chance my really messed up short could get into the Oscars.
This is a clean version because last time I uploaded to Youtube it got throttled by the algo for being too rude I guess?
